There are two simple methods of making this oatmeal porridge bounty style either in the microwave or just pouring hot water over it and it’ll be ready within a minute. The combination of the dark chocolate porridge with cocoa powder, the creamy coconut milk and the banana make it truly taste like a Jamaican porridge or bounty style porridge.

It is so easy to make oatmeal porridge healthy! Many people ask, ‘can you make porridge with water?’. I always nod and am a fan of healthy oatmeal recipe! It is so easy to make the porridge microwave recipe or just using hot water for instant porridge.

First, we should clarify how do you make porridge? The porridge ingredients are essential here. For the instant porridge, we need either instant oats or quick cooking oats. This way we can just use hot water or put the oatmeal in the microwave. The instant and quick cook oats, are oats that are softer and smaller, thus they don’t need a lot of heat or a lot of liquid to become soft. Rolled oats, steel cut oats, oat bran, oat groats and Scottish oats are not suitable for this recipe. In order to obtain a soft chocolate coconut porridge recipe, better use instant or quick oats!

What to put in oatmeal? I have a couple of favorite recipes, such as banana chocolate porridge, peanut butter porridge or apple cinnamon oatmeal. To all my recipes I also add chia seed to make it become a truly protein porridge recipe. For the perfect porridge oats there is not much needed! For oatmeal spice I always add a dash of cinnamon to it, to enhance the rich flavor and it also benefits the body.

Vegan coconut chocolate porridge recipe

How to make porridge vegan? Very simple, in order to make this vegan porridge coconut milk recipe, we just don’t use any milk and instead use hot water. This will make the chocolate banana porridge oats low calorie. Some may wonder whether this will influence the taste, but the cocoa powder in porridge adds the amazing taste to the porridge cacao recipe. For this vegan cream porridge recipe I only use raw cacao powder which is dark and rich in flavor and sugar free. It is unbelievable that his coconut chocolate porridge is completely healthy!

Coconut Chocolate Porridge

Coconut Chocolate Porridge

  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp (40g) instant or quick oats
  • 1 tsp each chia seeds, ground flax seeds, wheat bran, (optional)
  • 1 tbsp (10g) raw dark cocoa powder
  • 1 pinch cinnamon, (optional)
  • 2 tbsp (20g) desiccated coconut
  • 1 tbsp syrup (vegan) or honey
  • 1/3 cup + 1 tbsp (100ml) hot water
  • 2 tbsp coconut milk, (firm consistency)
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 2 tbsp coconut chips, (optional)


Coconut Chocolate Porridge

    1. Add the oats or oatmeal (chia seeds, ground flax seeds, wheat bran if available), raw dark cacao powder, cinnamon, shredded coconut and syrup or honey in a bowl, pour hot water over it and stir until well combined. Let it sit for 1 minute, add the coconut milk and stir again.
    2. Cut off a quarter of the ripe banana and slice it for the topping. Cut in half the remaining ¾ of the banana and then cut into slices, add them into the porridge.
    3. For the topping decorate with the remaining banana slices and coconut chips (optional)
