How to make porridge vegan? Very simple, in order to make this healthy apple cinnamon porridge vegan, we just don’t use any milk and instead use hot water. This will make the oats apple porridge low calorie. This way we can just use hot water or put the oatmeal in the microwave. The instant and quick cook oats, are oats that are softer and smaller, thus they don’t need a lot of heat or a lot of liquid to become soft. Rolled oats, steel cut oats, oat bran, oat groats and Scottish oats are not suitable for this recipe.

Ingredients

Apple Cinnamon Porridge

  • 1 or 1 & 1/2 apple(s)
  • 2 tbsp (20g) syrup (vegan) or honey
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp (15g) almond , (flakes)
  • 1/3 cup (35g) instant or quick oats
  • 2 tbsp (15g) muesli , (sugar free)
  • 1 tsp each chia seeds, ground flax seeds, wheat bran, (optional)
  • 1/3 cup (100ml) hot water

Method

Apple Cinnamon Porridge

    1. Cut an apple or the apples into 8 pieces and cut into thin slices. Add only 1 tbsp of syrup or honey to a sauce pan, heat it up and add the apples. Sprinkle with only 1 tsp of cinnamon and let it caramelize until the apples become a bit softer. Take out the apple pieces.
    2. Then add the other tbsp of syrup or honey to the sauce pan, heat it up and add the sliced ​​almonds and let them caramelize
    3. Add the oats or oatmeal (chia seeds, ground flax seeds, wheat bran if available), fruit muesli, the other tsp of cinnamon in a bowl, pour hot water over it and stir until well combined. Let it sit for 1 minute and stir again.
    4. Add the caramelized apples and almonds and mix into the porridge
