Chocolate Marble Cake Design

You can easily rebake this simple chocolate cake recipe because it is a relatively quick recipe including the chocolate cake frosting, so it is also suitable for baking beginners as well. The cake layers are inspired by the chocolate marble cake design.

In order to make this easy chocolate cake moist, whip the butter at room temperature, then add the sugar and salt and continue whipping the batter. Add each egg one at a time and mix well. Mix together flour with baking powder and add together with 400ml / 1 ½ cups + 3 tbsp milk and mix it all together. Now remove 1/3 of the cake batter and mix in the remaining milk and cocoa powder. Spread the light cake batter into three 16cm / 6 inch diameter baking pans lined with parchment paper.

Spread the cocoa cake batter on top and use a fork from bottom to top to create a marble effect cake design into the cake batter. Bake the cakes at 160°C / 320°F for about 30-40 minutes. In order to obtain a moist chocolate cake from scratch I recommend to let the cake layers cool down and then wrap it in cling film and chill in the fridge for a few hours. This way we keep the homemade chocolate cake moist and this process also makes the layers more firm, thus easier to stack.

Moist Chocolate Cake Recipe

This is the best chocolate flavour cake recipe and it is important to follow the instructions as described above. Now it’s time for the chocolate buttercream, I made the German buttercream in a chocolatey version by cooking a pudding and when cooled down mixing it with butter.

For this chocolate birthday cake, mix some of the milk with the cornstarch and sugar and bring the remaining milk to a boil. As soon as it boils, stir constantly and slowly add the sugar mixture and continue to mix with the whisk until it thickens. Quickly pour into a bowl and cover the surface with cling film to prevent the development of pudding skin. Let cool down to room temperature. Then whip the butter until fluffy and add the pudding spoon by spoon, finally melt the dark chocolate and add it together with the dark cocoa powder and mix well. It is fairly easy to make this chocolate cake moist.

Chocolate Birthday Cake From Scratch

Which filling for chocolate cake? This marble birthday design contains a lot of flavor, therefore I chose the German chocolate buttercream as the filling for this cake. German buttercream is the tastiest and best buttercream when it comes to flavor as it only contains 1/3 butter and is therefore not as greasy and not as sweet! You don’t need more than chocolate buttercream here, because the marble cake is already very moist and the incredibly delicious and full-bodied chocolate buttercream is a perfect match to it.

Which chocolate for cake? I always use dark chocolate or couverture (in Germany) when baking, it melts faster because it contains more fat. That’s why I use dark chocolate or dark couverture for this recipe.

Best Chocolate Cake for Birthday

For chocolate cake design, only the cake layers and the chocolate frosting for cake are required. To do this, spread about ¼ of the chocolate buttercream on the first cake layer, place the second on top and spread ¼ of the chocolate frosting and top it off with the third cake layer. For the chocolate cake decoration, cover the cake with the remaining chocolate buttercream.

To do this, heat up the cake smoother in hot water, dry it and go around the cake in order for the buttercream to become smooth. Pipe a wreath with the chocolate buttercream using a star tip. Decorating the chocolate cake for birthday can also look different by making a chocolate drip or putting a cake topper on it, there are no limits to creativity.
