One of the best Father’s Day cake ideas you’ll find is this savory cake recipe, which can make easily yourself. On the one hand it looks beautiful and festive and on the other hand it contains two delicious savory fillings. Homemade bread with two delicious layers consisting of an Italian sandwich and a classic club sandwich all wrapped in a cream cheese frosting. I decorated this man cake design with cream cheese, red pesto and diced ham.

Man Birthday Cake

The savory cake with ham cheese and herbs already exists, which is also one of the sandwich cake ideas which inspired me to make this cake, called ‘Smörgåstårta’ in Sweden. It’s one of the savory birthday cake alternatives and basically a sandwich bread cake consisting of bread, delicious savory fillings and a cream cheese frosting on the outside.

It is also possible to use store-bought bread or toasts for this cake, but I prefer to bake it myself, as it is fresher and flavor of your choice can be added. This happy Father’s Day Cake recipe can also be turned into a vegetarian savory cake by replacing or leaving out bacon on the inside and the diced ham on the outside. If left out it definitely changes the taste of the club sandwich layer though.

Sandwich Bread Cake Recipe

This is definitely the best cake for Father’s Day including a beautiful cake design for dad. To make this sandwich cake recipe, we first bake bread. Afterwards we’ll have a look at the sandwich cake filling.

Bread:
The best way to create savory cake flavors is to bake your own bread. It’s fluffy bread dough recipe to which you can add any flavor, I’ve added some Italian bread spice here.

To do this, carefully heat up the milk and butter for the butter to slowly dissolve in it. When the milk has cooled down to 40°C / 104°F, ass sugar, salt and active dry yeast. Place the flours and bread spices in a mixing bowl, then add the milk mixture and knead to a bread dough using a dough hook. Then let it rise in the bowl covered with a kitchen towel in a warm place or put it in the oven at 50°C / 122°F. After about 30 minutes or an hour, the dough should have doubled in size.

After the bread dough for the sandwich cake design has risen, briefly knead it again and then spread it out in a 18cm / 7inch baking pan, the dough should rise again in this stage until it has doubled in size. Then bake at 170°C / 338°F for about 30 minutes, allow to cool down and cut twice horizontally to obtain three layers of bread, the dome of the bread can be cut off a little. The first step of how to make a Father’s Day cake design is done, and it was super easy!

Savory Cake Recipe

A birthday cake for men definitely has to have meat and delicious savory fillings in but the sandwich cake ingredients can definitely be adjusted to the preferences of the person. I decided on two fillings for this man birthday cake. The first layer is inspired by the club sandwich and the second layer is Italian inspired. Both flavors are quite well known and hopefully pleases most people! For this simple Father’s Day Cake, it is helpful to prepare both fillings in advance.

Italian:
For the father’s birthday cake, the Italian layer of fillings goes first. Wash the tomatoes and cut them into relatively thin slices and cut the mozzarella into slices as well. Then spread half of the pesto on the first bread layer, then place the mozzarella and tomato slices on top. Then top it off with dried tomatoes and lastly the rucola. Now spread the remaining pesto on the second bread layer and press it upside down onto the rucola.

Club sandwich:
Fry the bacon in a pan, boil the eggs, let them cool down and cut them into slices and thoroughly wash the lettuce leaves. The tastiest part about this recipe for this cake for dad’s birthday is this sauce: Mix together mayonnaise, yoghurt, mustard and lemon juice until you obtain a creamy sauce. Spread half of the sauce on the bread layer, leaving 1cm / 0.4inch of the outer rim free for all fillings. Then place cheese slices, eggs, bacon and finally lettuce on it. Now spread the remaining sauce on the lettuce and place the last slice of bread on top.

Cream cheese Frosting:
For the sandwich cake with cream cheese, combine the cream cheese with salt and add gelatin according to package instructions. Refrigerate for several hours or overnight to allow the frosting to set. Fill into a piping bag and first fill the two layers and then spread the first thin layer of the frosting on the cake and smooth it out and cool the cake. Put aside some of the frosting and then apply the second layer to the cake and smooth it out, chill again.

There are many savory cake ideas and Father’s Day cake decorating ideas, but I decided for a beautiful decoration which looks like a regular sweet cake. Divide the cream cheese which has been set aside into three bowls, mix two of them with a little red pesto to obtain two different shades of orange, one a little lighter, the other a little darker. Fill all three frostings into piping bags using different nozzles and then start decorating the cake. Fry the diced ham, let it cool down and decorate the cake with it. Cool the man cake birthday overnight.

Happy Father’s Day Cake Design

With this cake design for father it’s perfect to celebrate birthday with a savory cake. Another birthday cake opportunity for men is this beer cake which looks like a beer mug and tastes like beer too!
